News from the Field (Summer 2006)

There is nothing that brightens the day for the GRTR! team more than hearing about how the GRTR! screening tool and resources are being used in the field.

Recently, we received an e-mail in the GRTR! Help Box requesting permission to reproduce some of  the materials on the GRTR! Web site. We asked the group, the Louisville Central Community Centers (LCCC) in Louisville, KY, to give us a brief description of how they are using the screening tool and resources in their community.

They wrote that they have partnered with the National Center for Family Literacy to create and deliver five early literacy parent workshops for the parents of the two child care centers that they operate. The materials that they reproduced from the GRTR! Web site were given out as part of the culminating workshop.

They selected items that give parents some follow-up activities for each of the areas examined in the workshops: Establishing a Literate Environment, Talking and Listening, the Sounds of Language, Print and Books, and Alphabetic Knowledge.
