What Word is Left?

What Word is Left? is a game that you can play with one child or a group of children to help them learn that smaller segments of language are contained in words. In this activity, children learn to listen for and isolate the parts of a compound word.

This activity is a ready to read activity, for children who have mastered many of the skills needed to learn to read and write.

This activity is a linguistic awareness activity. Linguistic awareness refers to a child's understanding of how language works, including the understanding of how sounds come together to make words.

New resource! Download a list of compound words to use with this activity here.
