The U.S. Department of Education is sponsoring a search for this year’s “American Star of Teaching,” recognizing one superior, innovative teacher from each state and the District of Columbia, from all grade levels and disciplines.  Nominate your favorite Pre-K teacher by April 1, 2007 on the Ed.gov Web site!  

American Library Association Announces Book Winners
Susan Patron’s “The Higher Power of Lucky” won this year’s “Outstanding Contribution” John Newbery Medal, among such previous winners as “A Wrinkle in Time” and “Holes.” The American Library Association also awarded children’s book prizes to Pete Seeger and Paul DuBois Jacobs’s “The Deaf Musicians,” and “Small Steps” by Louis Sachar.  Find out who else took home awards in the full article on CNN.com.

Recognition and Response
