Ask Get Ready to Read! August 2007 Question: I am the parent of a four-year-old. My child doesn't seem that interested in reading. What can I do with her at home to help? Can I use the screening tool at home even if I am not a teacher?

• Play our free animated online games and build essential skills with Get Ready to Read!'s Inky the Octopus and PBS character Gus the Bunny from Between the Lions.
• Young children learn by doing. Print out some or all of our 36 Get Ready to Read! early literacy activity cards and add early literacy skill-building to your daily routine. There is no need to print out all of the activities…find the ones that you think your child will most enjoy.
